These cheesy biscuits are a delightful side to soup or used to top a casserole. Slice them in half and pop on a fried egg for a breakfast, or lunchtime meal. I like to cube old cheddar cheese and push a piece in the center before baking for an extra special touch. Add chives, thyme, or any other herb you prefer to the dough to pair with different dishes.
Ingredients
BISCUIT
2 cups - all purpose flour
1 tbsp - baking powder
1/4 tsp - sea salt
5 tbsp - cold butter (salted)
3/4 cup - old cheddar cheese
3/4 cup - full fat milk
BUTTER TOPPING(optional)
1/4 cup - melted butter
1/4 tsp - sea salt Yields 12 biscuits
1/8 tsp - onion powder
1/4 tsp - garlic powder
1/8 tsp - dried parsley flakes
Directions
Gather biscuit ingredients, add dry ingredients together. With a pastry blender cut in the butter until crumbly. Mix in the cheese, then add the milk. Stir just until incorporated (if the dough is dry add a little bit more milk a tbsp at a time until slightly wet)
Drop by 1/4 cup full onto ungreased baking sheet and bake at 400° for 18-20 minutes.
While the biscuits are baking make the topping. Brush on top of cooked biscuits.
Cool slightly and serve
